Minara's vision is that all businesses are socially responsible and that such a focus becomes as recognized a part of planning and running a business, as financial viability. After all, what good is making money if you end up abusing your fellow citizens in the process. For more on how we define being socially responsible, please see Social Responsibility. Minara is non-profit 501(c)3 organization. It is based in Santa Barbara, CA. Contact information can be found here. |
Minara came into existence because the two of us lost our jobs. When two productive members of society, normally so focussed on the day-to-day that they have no time to think of anything else, suddenly find time on their hands, good things can happen. Both of us shared an interest in social injustices; the pilfering of the common good by rogue businesses in cahoots with greedy politicans ranked high in our lists of detrimental social injustices. That coupled with citizen indiferrence and resignation really set the stage for Minara's birth. Milind is a Ph.D from Carnegie-Mellon who's flirted with dot-com startups; Sri makes a living writing software while volunteering as treasurer for Child Vikaas International (CVI), a non-profit raising funds for projects benefitting children. In March 2002, we chose the name and started this organization in Santa Barbara, which is the first test bed for the campaign. We're actively seeking involvement, and if you're interested, do contact us. Sri Subramanian |
